The rosary – yoga what’s the link?

Rhythmic prayer, such as saying the rosary, seems to affect the heart rate
in the same way as doing yoga.
Research on the health benefits of prayer has shown decidedly mixed
results. When individuals pray in a ritualistic or rhythmic way, such as
saying the rosary or repeating a mantra, they can lower their heart rate.
In fact, one study showed that the cardiovascular effects of rhythmic
prayer are similar to that of doing yoga. Studies on the effects of
intercessory prayer — that is, prayer for other people — show less
optimistic results. One study even showed that people who received
intercessory prayer from other people were more likely to suffer
post-surgery complications.

“Behind our wounds”

What is a wound?
A wound is an emotional and  or a physical imbalance that is transmitted from generation to generation.
How do you know if you are carrying such wounds? There are often physical and emotional clues to their existence.. An example would be Hearing a young person say I am afraid of having a heart attack in my 40s, because my dad had one at 45 out of the blue and died.
Or My family has always not trusted those___kind of people because his brothers killed my grandfather.

“To interrupt the transmission of wounds from generation to generation
precisely because their persistence is so disruptive” to our
health “and because the problem of passing on intergenerational
trauma is so often overlooked.”
Do read James O’Dea’s book “Cultivating Peace” if you are serious about helping heal yourself and the planet.
Thank you James for laying out so clearly the steps to help our world heal from the inside out.

“Haiti is getting clean H2O”

Clean water in various parts of the world clean water is the gold standard -not the norm.

Even before the earthquake, conditions in Haiti were quite desperate. Just behind our hotel in Port-au-Prince, we visited a creek bed. Just above this area it was clear that this valley was used as the neighborhood trash dump. Pigs and goats fed on the trash.

As terrible as that was, nothing prepared us for this: animals using the same creeks that Haitians drink from everyday. When you live in the city and don’t have access to water in Haiti you either get water from a water truck or scavenge it from open water sources like this one.

Check out how it is coming now to Haiti.

“Step up to the new Food Plate?”

The old question What’s on your plate has taken on new meaning today with the unveiling of the new Food Plate image that will replace the food pyramid. Government (USDA) hopes that Americans who found  following the dietary guidelines of the food pyramid challenging will step up to the plate and eat healthier now.

It’s an icon that works, says WebMD nutrition director Kathleen Zelman, RD.
“We now have an easy-to-understand layout of what constitutes a healthy meal,” Zelman says. “Whether you are grocery shopping, packing lunches, or assembling a meal on a plate, the new food plate icon will serve as a constant reminder of the essential ingredients for a nutritious meal — five easy pieces.”
The icon makes it clear that fruits and veggies should make up half of your meal, while protein is the smallest part of the plate. The grain portion is a bit larger and still offers the advice to “make half your grains whole,” which some nutritionists say leaves too much room for less healthy refined grains such as white rice and white bread.
Other top-line advice accompanying the icon is less controversial:
Balance calories by enjoying food but eating less, and by avoiding oversize portions.
Eat more good stuff: Make half the plate fruit and vegetables, switch to nonfat or low-fat milk.
Eat less bad stuff: Look for lower-sodium soups, breads, and frozen meals; drink water instead of sugary drinks.
In the fall, the USDA will launch a suite of interactive web-based tools including:
Daily, personalized food plans.
Daily food plans for kids and preschoolers.
Daily food plans for new mothers and pregnant women.
MyFoodapedia: information on food groups, calories, and food comparisons.
Food Tracker: feedback on your food intake and physical activity
Food Planner: a tool to plan meals that will help you reach personal goals.
