“Tooth decay, fluoride and dental abuse”

In the United States alone, consumers spend more than $50 billion each year on the treatment of cavities. It is common knowledge that sugar residues on teeth can help cause tooth decay. The “solution” A partial solution in the past  we were told was to drink fluoridated water and by all means use fluoride laced toothpaste. We trusted these “medical professionals” to treat us in the safest least toxic way and at a reasonable cost.

First, let us discuss fluoridation

Fluoride is actually a hazardous waste taken from the scrubbers in smoke stacks of industry and phosphate fertilizer companies. “Fluoride” is too toxic for ocean or river dumping, but mysteriously acceptable for placing in our water for drinking or bathing.

In order to cause dental fluorosis the fluoride must be ingested (swallowed) during that time period when the child’s tooth enamel is forming. The most critical years associated with the formation of dental fluorosis lie between birth and age 6 or 7. Because the fluorosis staining occurs while the teeth are developing, evidence of this stain cannot be visualized until the affected teeth have erupted, which is typically between the years 6 through 12. (See above image)

The vast majority of dental fluorosis that occurs in the United States is a mild form characterized by the appearance of chalky-white lines or opaque-white patches in a tooth’s enamel. More severe forms of fluorosis can occur however. In extreme forms the affected areas have a yellow or brown discoloration. In some cases severe forms of fluorosis will result in a pitted tooth surface.

For the past nine years, the Fluoride Action Network — along with the Environmental Working Group and Beyond Pesticides — have persisted in challenging EPA’s decision to allow DOW AgroSciences to fumigate hundreds of food commodities in the United States with sulfuryl fluoride.

On Monday, January 11, 2011, EPA announced that they have granted all our Objections to the use of sulfuryl fluoride on the grounds that children are being overexposed to fluoride. EPA therefore is withdrawing ALL previously allowed tolerances for sulfuryl fluoride on ALL foodstuffs.

This is the first time in EPA’s history that they have granted an Objection to a pesticide.

Opponents to fluoridation claim that putting a toxic chemical like fluoride in the water or on foods just to make a small difference can be affecting so many body systems adversely at the same time is not ethical and is not safe.

Even the American Dental Association issued a warning in November 2006, urging parents not to prepare infant formula with water containing fluoride. Are dentists announcing the major shift in position from the ADA regarding “fluoride”?

Every tube of toothpaste with fluoride carries a warning: “Keep away from children. If too much is swallowed accidentally, contact your physician or report to a Poison Control Center.”

Talk to your dentist.

Caution:  Toothpaste should always be spit out and never swallowed. In all cases fluoridated toothpaste should be kept out of the reach of children and only dispensed to them by an adult.

Tomorrow let’s discuss quality of dental care or the lack of it.  Please submit experience and comments.

“Acai berry scam promoted in main media”

The acai berry products hsve been promoted for quick weight loss. It has become the latest and greatest craze, but with the craze come the crazies – the scam artists who pray on peoples needs for their own monetary gains.

Be aware of the scam promotions in the newspapers and on the web. Their ads may often begin with some of the following lines:

Look out for other manufacturing processes

Avoid products with additional ingredients

Avoid products that only include the Acai berry fruit as a minor ingredient

Free trial offers

Avoid products with any listed side effects

Over the last several months, the LA Times website and other mainstream media outlets have been running ads featuring text with messages like, “1 Trick of a Tiny Belly: Cut down a bit of your belly every day using this 1 weird old tip.”

The ad lures web surfers into a deceptive “fake news page” designed to trick people into agreeing to misleading offers that may result in hundreds of dollars being charged to their credit cards.

The “tiny belly” ads (http://www.naturalnews.com/images/T…), take surfers to any one of multiple fake news sites that appear to be legitimate news sites but are actually deceptive marketing pages. One such fake news page dubbed “Health News” features apparent news video footage from “Fox35,” an AccuWeather report, an apparent testimonial and a collection of user comments which appear to be completely fabricated. The “Leave reply” section is “closed due to spam,” says the fabricated advertorial page.

“Big organics sell out to Monsanto for $$$”

Having trouble deciphering labels organic, certified organic or natural?

After a 12-year battle to keep Monsanto’s Genetically Engineered (GE) crops from contaminating the nation’s 25,000 organic farms and ranches, America’s organic consumers and producers have been sold out!

The Organic Giants lead by Whole Foods Market, Organic Valley, and Stonyfield Farm, have decided to surrender to Monsanto!  Don’t buy from them.

Top executives from these companies have publicly admitted that they no longer oppose the mass commercialization of GE crops, such as Monsanto’s controversial Roundup Ready alfalfa, and are prepared to sit down and cut a deal for “coexistence” with Monsanto and USDA biotech cheerleader Tom Vilsack.

In a cleverly worded, but profoundly misleading email sent to its customers last week, Whole Foods Market, while proclaiming their support for organics and “seed purity,” gave the green light to USDA bureaucrats to approve the “conditional deregulation” of Monsanto’s genetically engineered, herbicide-resistant alfalfa.

“The policy set for GE alfalfa will most likely guide policies for other GE crops as well. True coexistence is a must.”   –  Whole Foods Market, Jan. 21, 2011

Beyond the regulatory euphemism of “conditional deregulation,” this means that WFM and their colleagues are willing to go along with the massive planting of a chemical and energy-intensive GE perennial crop, alfalfa; guaranteed to spread its mutant genes and seeds across the nation; guaranteed to contaminate the alfalfa fed to organic animals; guaranteed to lead to massive poisoning of farm workers and destruction of the essential soil food web by the toxic herbicide, Roundup; and guaranteed to produce Roundup-resistant superweeds that will require even more deadly herbicides such as 2,4 D to be sprayed on millions of acres of alfalfa across the U.S.

In exchange for allowing Monsanto’s premeditated pollution of the alfalfa gene pool, WFM wants “compensation.” In exchange for a new assault on farmworkers and rural communities (a recent large-scale Swedish study found that spraying Roundup doubles farm workers’ and rural residents’ risk of getting cancer), WFM expects the pro-biotech USDA to begin to regulate rather than cheerlead for Monsanto. In payment for a new broad spectrum attack on the soil’s crucial ability to provide nutrition for food crops and to sequester dangerous greenhouse gases (recent studies show that Roundup devastates essential soil microorganisms that provide plant nutrition and sequester climate-destabilizing greenhouse gases), WFM wants the Biotech Bully of St. Louis to agree to pay “compensation” (i.e. hush money) to farmers “for any losses related to the contamination of his crop.”

This merger would also silence the truth in labeling regulations in regard to true organic products. Please help.

Please help the blocking of this unhealthy merger and practices.

“Kids’ health risk higher in stroke belt “

This is not a stroke of good luck belt this is the debilitating possibly paralyzing belt.
Too much fried food may contribute to the high rate of stroke in America’s southern states.
The study claims that eating fried fish twice a week is the possible culprit for the high incidence of stokes in the southern states of the USA.

The results showed that people living in the stroke belt – including residents of North Carolina, South Carolina, Georgia, Alabama, Mississippi, Tennessee, Arkansas and Louisiana were about 30 percent more likely to eat two or more servings of fried fish every week than those living in the rest of the country, the researchers said.
However the data did not include all the other deep fried, dairy, pork or butter laden foods so typically consumed by southerners like hush puppies, collard greens or other foods drowned in butter, fries, chicken fried steaks, and cheese sticks to name a few.

Blacks have 3.5 times greater risk

Blacks statistically have an increased risk of stroke regardless of where they live, but their stroke risk was 3.5 times higher if they ate two or more servings of fried fish per week than whites.
Inhabitants of the stroke belt are 20 percent more likely to die from a stroke than those living in the rest of the country. Those living at the center of the stroke belt, the coastal plains of North Carolina, South Carolina and Georgia, are 40 percent more likely to die from stroke, said study researcher Fadi Nahab of Emory University in Atlanta.
Anything fried in oil or cooked in butter, is not healthy to eat
Stroke Belt or Stroke Alley is the name given to a region in the southeastern United States that has been recognized by public health authorities for having an unusually high incidence of stroke and other forms of cardiovascular disease. It iincludes an 11-state region consisting of Alabama, Arkansas, Georgia, Indiana, Kentucky, Louisiana, Mississippi, North Carolina, South Carolina, Tennessee, and Virginia.
Analysis by the CDC of U.S. found that stroke death rates for these states ranged from a high of 169 per 100,000 in South Carolina to a low of 89 per 100,000 in New York. While most observational studies have focused primarily on stroke incidence in adults, in 2004 researchers reported that children in the eleven stroke belt states also have an increased risk of death from ischemic and hemorrhagic stroke compared with children in other states.

Glymour et al. (2007) reported that adults who had resided in the stroke belt during childhood and had moved outside the region had higher stroke risk at ages 50 and older than adults who grew up in areas with lower stroke incidence. Other stroke risk factors: hypertension, low socioeconomic status, diet, quality of healthcare facilities, smoking, and infections.

The Stroke Belt also has high rates of lung cancer, caused by smoking or exposure to cigarette smoke as a child, poverty, poor maternal nutrition, low birth weights would predispose individuals to higher than average risk of stroke and cardiovascular disease.
Smoking or  exposure to second and third hand smoke is reputed to be the strongest contributing factor of developing both diseases

“New Muppets are superfoods?”

Why would Sesame Street consider broccoli, banana, a wheat bun and a chunk of cheese superfoods?

No joke, this week the newest muppet puppets will be introduced as superfoods. Who would pay for this new push and why?

Broccoli is a nutritious vegetable  and bananas have lots of good vitamins, but a wheat bun and cheese could not be compared to the natural wholesomeness of the other two.

So lets imagine now, that these children in their most impressionable stage of life watch these new puppets and believe if they eat lots of cheese and wheat buns they will develop super skills and only gain weight and feel sluggish. Humm who would benefit?

The funder of these new puppets is Merck Pharmaceutical who makes cholesterol drugs and vaccines.

“Recalled kids meds =ER trips”

CDC researchers  found that recalled cough and cold over the counter medications accounted for too many of the ER visits for small children.
The good news
The numbers of ER nonfatal trips of young children between 0 and 4 years of age dropped by more than half, from 2,790 visits to 1,248 nationwide in the past 14 months.
The bad news
If parents had thrown away these old cough and cold childrens’ syrups when they were recalled in 2007 these children would not have gotten sick.
Some uninformed parents are still giving their infants and toddlers these medicines, and young children are still finding ways to get a hold of these old medicines themselves.
Please throw these old medicines away.

“What’s swinging in your family tree?”

– M.Wolken editor of CMANews
When I went in the early 90s to a family reunion for my mother family I took time to observe what was swinging from my family’s health tree and the decade of life these  various health imbalances began to show. It was fasinating glimpse into the my possible health future.
My training in natural medicines especially Homeopathy has taught me to look at each of life’s challenges from a different perspective. Our response to each health and or emotional crisis has come to be from our cumulative training from those people and the environment both inside our body as well as those stresses of living our life has brought us.

To assist a person  find peace and wellness a practitioner must learn as much about the entire personal and familial history  as possible. Nothing in health or dis-ease happens in isolation.

Family health history a powerful, underused tool in modern medicine today.
In integrated medical practice like homeopathy, ayurvedic, oriental, and naturopathic medicines, the family history has always been seen as needed. We were taught the better the initial history the better the evaluation, the better insight, the better individualized care and the more positive the healing.

In Homeopathy and Oriental medicine add another aspect to the history and patient profile, learning how to observe how a person, how they move, presents themselves, shake hands, the health and coloring of their tongue and their emotional history are the vital components of the patient history.

These wholistic aspects to patient care are so often ignored or missed in the current “managed care system of seeing a person every 3 to 5 minutes, reminding them to focus only on what is bothering them the most and running on to the next person before the patient has gotten acquainted with the professional.
A recent  Cleveland Clinic study compared using a good oral family history to using simply the lab results from an online genomic testing services that analyze DNA glitches and predict people’s predisposition to various diseases to uncovered who might be at an increased risk of cancer.  Not surprisingly , a good family history taken by an office assistant from relatives accompanying the patient was found to be a better predictor.
All it costs is a little time questioning your relatives, yet good family health trees are rare. A government survey estimated less than a third of families have one – and time-crunched doctors seldom push their patients to remedy that.

*Encourage each family to write down as much as they can remember about the conditions their parents and elderly had, how they died and from what. Knowing both sides of your family tree are vital. A study of 2,500 women found that women not only know less about the health of their paternal relatives, they tend to dismiss the threat of breast cancer if it’s on Dad’s side.
“It’s a risk no matter what,” says Dr. Wendy Rubinstein of Chicago’s North Shore University Health System.

Dr. Charis Eng, a cancer geneticist at the Cleveland Clinic’s Genomic Medicine Institute believes that  “It’s the best-kept secret in health care.”

How to start your family health history.

The U.S. Surgeon General operates a free website – https://familyhistory.hhs.gov – that helps people create a family health history and share it electronically with relatives and their doctor.

“Will a laptop fry your parts?”

Sitting with a computer on your lap and the cell phone in your pocket on your hip or over your heart may effect your health and your ability to reproduce.
When the temperature in your upper leg area rises it may effect the quality, viability and numbers of sperm.of your nether regions.
In the journal Fertility and Sterility, short of putting your laptop on a desk, researchers found no way to protect the sexual organs..
The researchers hooked thermometers to the scrotums of 29 young men who were balancing a laptop on their knees. They found that even with a lap pad under the computer, the men’s scrotums overheated quickly. After one hour, when a laptop is held on your knees, sitting still with your legs closed. men’s testicle temperature had risen by up to 2.5 C.
A lap pad kept the computer cool and also made sure less heat was transmitted to the skin. But it didn’t do much to cool the testicles, and might give “a false sense of security,” according to Dr. Yefim Sheynkin, a urologist at the State University of New York at Stony Brook, who led the new study.
“Within 10 or 15 minutes their scrotal temperature is already above what we consider safe, but they don’t feel it,” he added. Under normal circumstances, the testicles’ position outside of the body makes sure they stay a few degrees cooler than the inside of the body, which is necessary for sperm production.  The body is designed to protect  the testicles’ position outside of the body to sure they stay a few degrees cooler than the inside of the body, which is necessary for sperm production.
Earlier research has shown that warming the scrotum more than one degree Celsius (1.8 degrees Fahrenheit) is enough to damage sperm.
According to the American Urological Association, nearly one in six couples in the US have trouble conceiving a baby, and about half the time the man is at the root of the problem.
Many factors influence reproductive health including genetics, lifestyle, nutrition, drug use and this up and coming factor heat and radiation effects from cell phones and cell phone towers.

Health Hazard
Using computers, cell phone or living too close to cell phone towers can increase damage to living cells, increase sleep problems and malignant tumors and ADD and ADHD symptoms,  fatique and decrease overall well being.

The solution is protection, healthy diet and placing cell phone towers at a safe distance from communities they are serving.

“Stop colds this season?”

The Human rhinovirus is the common cold. It enters through the nose and attaches itself to the surface cells (epithelial cells) in the nose or upper respiratory tract, then copies it self rapidly like a fax machine gone crazy. If the cells of the respiratory system becomes weakened through  emotional stress, too little water, accidents, poor food choices, lack of sleep, too little exercise .. the environment for your cells is challenged and often the body’s pH will become acidic. This allows the Rhino Virus to breed and spread inside your respiratory system.

How does it copy itself so fast?

The Human rhinoviruses enters the upper respiratory tract. and the virus inserts itself into another molecule called a receptor protein on the surface of a cell that is lining  the nose, throat or bronchi. The virus functions like a  key in the lock of a door. Once the virus locks itself to the receptor protein, it unlocks the cell and duplicates itself. The copy breaks away  to find another weakened cell to infect.

The infected cells do not enjoy being invaded, so they send out chemical distress signals called that activates the healing response in the form of immune cells that will come to the rescue of the inflamed cells and try to quell the inflammation.
Infection occurs rapidly, within 15 minutes of entering the respiratory tract. Over 50 per cent of individuals will experience symptoms within 2 days of infection. Only about 5 per cent of individuals have a cold after infection in less than 20 hours. Five percent of the people will take longer than four and a half days to exhibit the Rhino virus symptoms. It grow well at 32°C the temperature which is the normal temperature in the upper respiratory tract.

Symptoms of a cold may include a sore throat, runny nose, nasal congestion, sneezing and cough; sometimes accompanied by muscle aches, fatigue, malaise, headache, muscle weakness, or loss of appetite. Fever and extreme exhaustion are more usual in influenza. Children may have six to twelve colds a year. In the United States, the incidence of colds is higher in the autumn and winter, with most infections occurring between September to April. The seasonality may be due to the start of the school year, or due to people spending more time indoors (thus in closer proximity with each other),
Preventing the cold before it happens:

  • eating plenty of fruit.
  • exercising five or more days of the week cut the length and intensity of a cold from about five days in three-month period. Those that did little or no exercise colds lasted nine days in three months.
  • Feeling fit and being active cut the risk of having a cold by nearly 50%.
  • keep well hydrated
  • eat lots of fresh multicolored vegetable
  • get lots of sleep
  • do stress buster activities like deep breathing, meditation, dance
  • wash hands frequently

“Alcohol more dangerous to the family than illegal drugs”

Alcohol is more dangerous than illegal drugs like heroin and crack cocaine, according to a new British study. British experts evaluated substance abuse effects of alcohol, cocaine, heroin, ecstasy and marijuana, ranking them based on how destructive they are to the individual who takes them and to society as a whole.
In the studied drugs, heroin, crack cocaine and methamphetamine, or crystal meth, were found to be the most lethal to individuals. When considering their wider social effects, effects of substance abuse, alcohol, heroin and crack cocaine were the deadliest. Marijuana, ecstasy and LSD scored far lower. Overall, alcohol outranked all other substances, followed by heroin and crack cocaine. The study was paid for by Britain’s Center for Crime and Justice Studies and was published online Monday in the medical journal, Lancet.

Some examples of how alcohol or the tendency to drink is destroying lives in the US.

  • Fifth and sixth-grade students found that those who demonstrated an awareness of beer ads also held more favorable beliefs about drinking and intended to drink more frequently when they grew up.
  • Children who are drinking alcohol by 7th grade are more likely to report academic problems, substance use, and delinquent behavior in both middle school and high school.
  • Classical alcoholism takes about 15 years to develop, but it can happen much quicker in adolescents and young adults.
  • Teen alcohol use kills about 6000 people each year, more than all illegal drugs combined.
  • One in five teens binge drink. Only 1 in 100 parents believes his or her teen binge drinks.
In the US current regular drinkers (at least 12 drinks in the past year): 52%
  • Kids who start drinking young are seven times more likely to be in an alcohol-related crash. One in three 8th graders drinks alcohol.
  • Drunk driving costs each adult in this country almost $500 per year.Number of alcoholic liver disease deaths: 14,406
  • Number of alcohol-induced deaths, excluding accidents and homicides: 23,199
  • By the time they are high school seniors, 80% have used alcohol and 62% have been drunk.
  • Every minute, one person is injured from an alcohol-related crash.
  • In the United States, roughly 50,000 cases of alcohol poisoning are reported each year, and approximately once every week, someone dies from this preventable condition.
  • Mothers Against Drunk Driving (MADD) serves a victim or survivor of drunk driving every 10 minutes. Since 1980 MADD has nearly saved 300,000 lives

Treatment for alcoholism has been shown to reduce criminal activity up to 80% among chronic offenders, has increased their rate of employment, decreases homelessness and reduces all health care costs.
