Why would Sesame Street consider broccoli, banana, a wheat bun and a chunk of cheese superfoods?
No joke, this week the newest muppet puppets will be introduced as superfoods. Who would pay for this new push and why?
Broccoli is a nutritious vegetable and bananas have lots of good vitamins, but a wheat bun and cheese could not be compared to the natural wholesomeness of the other two.
So lets imagine now, that these children in their most impressionable stage of life watch these new puppets and believe if they eat lots of cheese and wheat buns they will develop super skills and only gain weight and feel sluggish. Humm who would benefit?
The funder of these new puppets is Merck Pharmaceutical who makes cholesterol drugs and vaccines.
For middle age and older adults weight loss is increased by drinking two glasses of water before eating.
Recent research has found that one can lose 30 percent more weight than those who did not drink before eating. Scientists at Virginia Tech in Blacksburg assigned 48 overweight or obese men and women ages 55 to 75 to one of two groups. Both groups consumed low-fat, low-calorie diets for 12 weeks, but one group was told to drink two 8-ounce glasses of water before breakfast, lunch and dinner.
After 12 weeks, the water drinkers shed about 15.5 pounds, while the other group dropped about 11 pounds. The two groups were followed for one year and those who continued to drink water before meals lost even more weight, on average about 1.5 pounds.
Water fills the stomach with a zero-calorie fluid, so people eat less. However this seems to work only for this age group , because the stomach releases the water much slower from the stomach.
The study was funded by the Institute for Public Health and Water Research, a nonprofit, independent science organization that was launched by an unrestricted grant from the Brita Products Company.

It is all about how cheap we can make cheap jewelry and toys.
If it works and no one complains about the toxicity level of certain metals used then keep doing it. China’s low-cost jewelry makers, it was an open trade secret: The metal cadmium is shiny, strong and malleable at low temperatures, regardless of its health hazards. And it’s cheap. It is being used now to keep the cost down since lead was banned a few years ago. Profit at all costs above childrens health. Cancer, learning disabilities and permanent IQ loss are some of the known side effects. Tao Xinyao, a metals expert who works in the Yiwu factory for jewelry maker Neoglory, said she noticed an upserge in the use of cadmium around 2003, when prices of the metal hit a low. Jewelry makers discovered they could work with cadmium at much lower temperatures than they could zinc, the most common nontoxic material, she said.
The Associated Press bought and tested more than 100 pieces of childrens jewelry made in China
and sold at Wal-mart and other retailers around the country.
Cadmium content of a few toys
12% of the cheap jewelry trinkets contained at least 10 %
Disney’s “Princess and the Frog” pendants -25 to 35 %
Rudolph the Red-Nosed Reindeer charm – 91 %
Best Friend’s Bracelet charms – 89 and 91 %
Signs of cadmium overdose
“Acute exposure to cadmium fumes may cause flu like symptoms including chills, fever, and muscle ache
Severe tracheo-bronchitis, pneumonitis, and pulmonary edema. Symptoms of inflammation may start hours after the exposure and include cough, dryness and irritation of the nose and throat, headache, dizziness, weakness, fever, chills, and chest pain.
Inhaling cadmium-laden dust quickly leads to respiratory tract and kidney failure..
Ingestion of any significant amount of cadmium causes immediate poisoning and damage to the liver and the kidneys.
Compounds containing cadmium are also carcinogenic.
Bones become soft (osteomalacia), lose bone mineral density (osteoporosis) and become weaker. This causes the pain in the joints and the back, and also increases the risk of fractures. In extreme cases of cadmium poisoning, mere body weight causes a fracture.
The kidneys lose their function to remove acids from the blood in proximal renal tubular dysfunction. The kidney damage inflicted by cadmium poisoning is irreversible and does not heal over time. The proximal renal tubular dysfunction creates low phosphate levels in the blood (hypophosphatemia), causing muscle weakness and sometimes coma. The dysfunction also causes gout, a form of arthritis due to the accumulation of uric acid crystals in the joints because of high acidity of the blood (hyperuricemia). Another side effect is increased levels of chloride in the blood (hyperchloremia). The kidneys can also shrink up to 30%.
Other patients lose their sense of smell (anosmia).”
Children as well as adults are susceptible to cadmium poisoning.
Cover up by Marine Corptoxic dump
The Marine Corps still hasn’t notified everyone who drank tainted water at Camp Lejeune of the health risks like many kinds of cancer including male breast cancer, birth defects and miscarriages all coming from their own drinking water.
Seems that dry cleaning chemicals were dumped into at least two water distribution systems at Camp Lejeune. Many Marines, sailors, their families and civilian employees have been affected by the contamination. This water tested positive for tetrachloroethylene, vinyl chloride, benzene, toluene, ethylbenzene, and xylene. These chemicals are commonly used in dry cleaning.
Marine Corps had known about these chemicals in the base water supply since 1980. Mike parents were consuming the contaminated water in 1967, when they were expecting him. He was a small baby, born with a persistent skin rash, and developed other health problems as he grew up. His parents, along with many other base residents, have developed more than the average number of health problems. Camp LeJeune’s water supply was contaminated for 30 years. This preventable water problem and the resulting health disaster may have affected an estimated 800,000 to 1 million former Marines and their families.
This total disregard for human life is appalling.
Seems Congress will have to demand that all the old records be handed over and the problem be responsibly addressed. Since the Marine Corps had their own hazardous material regulations and potable water standards in place dating back to 1963, but chose not to follow them. IF found guilty must be help responsible for the care of all these victims. This type of dumping is preventable.
Driving in the rain
I wonder how many people know about this ~ A 36 year old female had an
Accident several weeks ago and totaled her car. A resident of Kilgore, Texas
She was traveling between Gladewater & Kilgore. It was raining,
Though not excessively, when her car suddenly began to hydro-plane and
Literally flew through the air. She was not seriously injured but very
Stunned at the sudden occurrence!
When she explained to the highway patrolman what had happened he told
Her something that every driver should know
Drive in cruise control only on dry pavement.
Maintain a safe consistent speed in the rain and all the time.
If the cruise control in the rain chances of hydro-plane and your tires lose contact with the pavement, your car will accelerate to a higher rate of speed making you take off like an airplane.
She told the patrolman that was exactly what had occurred.
The patrolman said this warning should be listed, on the driver’s seat sun-visor
NEVER USE THE CRUISE CONTROL WHEN THE PAVEMENT IS WET OR ICY,
Along with the airbag warning
Drive a safe speed and use the cruise control only when the pavement is dry.
The only person the accident victim found, who knew this (besides the Patrolman), was a man who had had a similar accident, totaled his car and sustained severe injuries.
NOTE: Some vehicles (like the Toyota Sienna Limited XLE) will not allow you
To set the cruise control when the windshield wipers are on.
The popular cold remedy Vicks VapoRub may cause airway inflammation that can restrict breathing in infants and toddlers under two, U.S. researchers said.
If Vicks Procter & Gamble product is applied directly under the nose or in the nostrils of children under 4 years of age their tiny airways could swell and fill with mucus, triggering severe breathing problems.
“The company is really clearly states
don’t put it in the nose,
never use it in kids under 2,
“Sure enough, when we stopped all the medicine, the child got much better very quickly.” said Dr. Bruce K. Rubin professor and vice chair for research at Wake Forest’s Department of Pediatrics said the ingredients in Vicks can be irritants, causing the body to produce more mucus to protect the airway. And since infants and young children have airways that are much narrower than those of an adult, any increase in mucus or swelling can narrow them severely.
Doctors at Wake Forest University in Winston-Salem, N.C. started their study after treating an 18-month-old girl who had developed severe respiratory distress after the salve had been put directly under her nose to relieve cold symptoms.
The researchers found that Vicks VapoRub increased mucus production by up to 59 percent; the ability to clear mucus was reduced by 36 percent.
Many generic versions of Vicks could cause the same negative effects in infants and toddlers.
In October 2008, major manufacturers and the U.S. Food and Drug Administration announced that over-the-counter cough and cold medicines should not be used by children younger than 4 years.
If one applies Vicks or eucalyptus and olive oil to the bottoms of the feet and then cover the feet with socks, it has been known to stop some sever coughs. Homeopathy also is very good for coughs and colds due consult a homeopathic practitioner.

Health alert over the “use of anti-wrinkle treatments like Botox, after an Australian baby was born with serious birth defects.
The mother was given facial cosmetic injections of the drug Dysport in the first weeks of her pregnancy in 2005. Her baby was born deaf and blind.
A report by the manufacturer a year later admits a possible link with the drug’s use, News Ltd reported.”
Dysport is made from clostridium botulinum type A a haemeglobulin and has, far as the Australian Therapeutic Goods Administration is concerned, no warnings and no specific indications are given for its use.
Haemeglobulin means it effects the blood and seems to cross the blood brain barrier in mom and fetus. The drugs effects on early stage fetal development can possibly be due to the neurological stress causing the wrong chemical messages to be sent to the developing fetal systems.

What do “games” like Blackout, Flatliner, Fainting Game, California Choke, Dream Game, Airplaning, Suffocation Roulette, Space Cowboy and the Pass-Out Game have in common they are deadly.
The Center for Disease Control (CDC) on February 14, 2008 warned parents, teachers, and health care providers about the so-called choking game, which has killed at least 82 U.S. youths since 1995.
“The choking game involves intentionally trying to choke oneself or someone else with one’s hand or a noose to attain a brief euphoric state or high. If the strangulation is prolonged, which is something that can happen very quickly, death or a serious injury can result,” explains Robin Toblin, PhD, MPH, of the CDC’s National Center for Injury Prevention and Control.
Warning Signs of the Choking Game
The CDC urges parents, teachers, and health care workers to learn the possible warning signs of the choking game:
* Discussion of the game, including other names for it, such as “pass-out game” or “space monkey”
* Bloodshot eyes
* Marks on the neck
* Severe headaches
* Disorientation after spending time alone
* Ropes, scarves, and belts tied to bedroom furniture or doorknobs or found knotted on the floor
* The unexplained presence of dog leashes, choke collars, and bungee cords.
Prevent and educate
“If parents believe their child is playing the choking game, they should speak to them about the life-threatening dangers associated with the game and seek additional help if necessary,” Toblin said.
Rise in Choking Game Deaths
The Web site GASP, which stands for Games Adolescents Shouldn’t Play, reports that 65 children died in 2007 alone. Mark Lepore, an assistant professor of counseling psychology at Chatham College in Pittsburgh, told The Houston Press last year that he believed 1,800 people in the United States had died playing the game in the past 10 years; most were children and teenagers.
Most of the deaths were among boys ages 11 to 16, and the average age was 13, the report said. Choking game deaths were identified in 31 states. “Because most parents in the study had not heard of the choking game, we hope to raise awareness of the choking game among parents, health care providers, and educators, so they can recognize warning signs of the activity,” said Robin L. Toblin, the study’s lead author. “This is especially important because children themselves may not appreciate the dangers of this activity.”

Does this warm your heart and make you feel comfy?
In BARNWELL, S.C. for years used radioactive materials from across the country have been trucked into the landfills in this poor rural town for permanent disposal! Truckloads of low-level nuclear waste like rice-size radioactive seeds for treating cancer and pencil-thin nuclear tubes used in industrial gauges from most of the U.S. were taken to a rural South Carolina landfill sealed in concrete and buried.
I guess someone had to do it.
This all changed July 1 when the state of South Caroline finally cried Injun and stopped this practice.
Now across America spent radioactive materials are piling up in hospital and research facility basements and locked closets. Nuclear waste piles up at hospitals – SEANNA ADCOX, Associated Press 9/25/2008
