“Vitamin D + Autism symptoms

Vitamin D is not really a vitamin at all – it is a pre-hormone that’s produced in your skin in response to sunlight exposure. As such, it is an integral part of human health and longevity.

Dr. Cannell answers reader’s questions and sheds light on some of the latest papers on

vitamin D.

On Autism

Dear Dr. Cannell:
My son James weighs 48lb, he is 7 yrs old. He had autistic symptoms for almost 5 years (first noticed when he was 2 yrs old). I initially started him on 2,000 IU last November after he caught the flu. Two weeks later, I noticed improvements in areas of social interaction, verbalization. I then increased his dosage to 5,000 IU per your recommendation, and he got better.

His progress has been so great that his kindergarten teacher and Speech Therapist have recommended that he exit the Early Intervention Program.

He is more social, making friends easily, participating in cooperative play, and soon to be in a regular classroom. I think it might be bad luck to say he is cured. Is that possible in a genetic disease? A friend told me he must never have had autism but whatever it was, I don’t want it back. I remember what he was like, and me, too. No thanks.

I’m writing because my son’s pediatrician just called and told me James’s 25(OH) level was 122. He believes he must be toxic because of that level and wants me to stop giving him all vitamin D supplements and recheck his vitamin D level next month. James feels great and shows no signs of toxicity.

What should I do?
Mary, New York

Dear Mary:
That is wonderful news about your son. He is not toxic. However, he should reduce his vitamin D to 2,000 IU/day and recheck his blood level in a month. Some of his symptoms may come back; I don’t know but do not fear, if the symptoms return the vitamin D will take care of them. It appears to me that high dose vitamin D controls, rather than “cures,” some cases of autism. If his level in a month is below 100 ng/ml, the pediatrician will be happy as that is the upper range of normal vitamin D levels.

Yes, autism is a genetic disease, so how can vitamin D treat it? I suspect that one of vitamin D’s many duties in the body is to protect your genome from mutations, organizing the correction of random and point mutations when they occur. Think of your son as having DNA that is unlikely to function properly with lower levels of vitamin D. How long his DNA will be sensitive to low vitamin D, I don’t know.

An immediate question is how much vitamin D to give him now. You want to give him the lowest dose that controls his symptoms. I suspect that he will end up needing 3,000 to 4,000 IU per day to maintain his 25(OH)D around 80-90 ng/ml.

“Loosening the bond of coke addiction”

A new cocaine vaccine is being tested in clinical trials. It block dopamine-transport receptors and the “high” it causes. “high.”
The vaccine consists of molecules of cocaine covalently bonded to a large carrier protein, a recombinant cholera toxin B subunit. The cholera subunit is harmless without the other part of the normal virulent cholera A subunit.
This carrier was chosen because that a cholera subunit vaccine has been administered to millions of people without any adverse effects,

Since Americans are rarely exposed to or even vaccinated against cholera, their immune defense system will probably launch a strong defense against this foreignthis protein and the attached cocaine molecule.

The carrier choice was dictated by the knowledge that a cholera vaccine made from this subunit has been administered to millions of people without any adverse effects, and by the fact that Americans are rarely exposed to or vaccinated against cholera, so most would likely mount a new and robust immune response to this protein and the attached cocaine molecule.

After intramuscular injection, the vaccine enters the bloodstream and triggers plasma cells to produce antibodies to the cocaine molecule as a component of the immunogenic cholera protein. This creates an army of antibodies that can latch onto free cocaine molecules in the bloodstream and, because they are too bulky to fit through tight junctions in blood vessels, prevent the drug from leaving the circulatory system and entering tissues and organs.

Since tiny cocaine molecules that are now bound to big antibodies can no longer cross the blood-brain barrier into the brain, where they would ordinarily block dopamine-transport receptors and cause the buildup of dopamine that users perceive as a “high.” Cocaine that is kept from reaching its “target” in the brain is prevented from triggering reward sensations. With continued, regular booster vaccinations, necessary because the antibody titer declines steeply about 3 months after reaching peak levels, the bonds of addiction may be loosened, giving addicts a stab at kicking their habit altogether.

“Angry leave it for the dogs”

“If your dog doesn’t like someone you probably shouldn’t either.”
– Unknown

Has your behavior gone to the dogs?

Even if you are in an angry mood never bark at anyone. It is bad for your image and makes communication tougher.-MW

“The external expression of anger can be found in facial expressions, body language, physiological responses, and at times in public acts of aggression. Humans and animals for example make loud sounds, attempt to look physically larger, bare their teeth, and stare. The behaviors associated with anger are designed to warn aggressors to stop their threatening behavior. Rarely does a physical altercation occur without the prior expression of anger by at least one of the participants. While most of those who experience anger explain its arousal as a result of “what has happened to them,” psychologists point out that an angry person can be very well mistaken because anger causes a loss in self-monitoring capacity and objective observability.”

Speak from your heart so anger never overruns you.

“Tai Chi for heart health n office relaxation”

This gentle, graceful movement form packs serious health benefits for all ages that practice Tai chi daily. It has recently been in the news for its help at improving heart heart and for stress reduction.

Many of these exercises can be done sitting at your office desk as well or in a straight back chair at home.

Take 5 minutes  to watch and relax with Tai Chi

“Tai Chi appears to be a safe alternative to low-to-moderate intensity conventional exercise training,” for people with Chronic Heart Failure (CHD)  said Gloria Yeh of Beth Israel Deaconess Medical Center head of the study team . CHD is a debilitating and progressive disease that limits a person’s ability to breathe and move.

People with chronic heart failure may be able to boost their quality of life by doing Tai Chi, the ancient Chinese exercise regimen that teaches each person control of their body, mind and emotional energy through gentle deliberate quiet motions.

Take 5 minutes  to watch and relax with Tai Chi
Archives of Internal Medicine, a journal of the American Medical Association reported that the study was divided into two group sessions of one hour each per week were enough to show significant improvements in mood and confidence.
50 US heart patients were enrolled in Tai Chi program study led by an instructor who guided the class in a series of fluid motions and 50 others who took classroom study in heart education.

Physical responses were similar in both groups, but those who did tai chi showed “significant” improvements in their emotional state response questionaire. The Tai Chi group also reported better “exercise self-efficacy (confidence to perform certain exercise-related activities), with increased daily activity, and related feelings of well-being compared with the education group,” said the study.
“Tai Chi seems to be a safe alternative to low-to-moderate intensity conventional exercise training, It has a good rate of adherence and may provide value in improving daily exercise, quality of life, self-efficacy and mood in frail, deconditioned patients with systolic heart failure,” said Yeh.

Previous studies have suggested Tai Chi, which involves slow, circular movements and balance-shifting exercises, may be helpful to people who suffer from high blood pressure, fibromyalgia and stress. All ages and ability levels can benefit by daily Tai Chi practice.

“Hope filter radioactive H2O”

As our collective conscious grows and we work together may positive changes are taking place-there is no need to fear.

A natural way to remove radioactive contaminants from water.

The new material is a combination of hemicellulose, a byproduct of forest materials, and chitosan, crushed and powdered crustacean shells that will absorbs water and actually extract contaminates, such as radioactive iodide, from the water itself says researchers from North Carolina State University have found.
“As we’re currently seeing in Japan, one of the major health risks posed by nuclear accidents is radioactive iodide that dissolves into drinking water. Because it is chemically identical to non-radioactive iodide, the human body cannot distinguish it – which is what allows it to accumulate in the thyroid and eventually lead to cancer,” says Dr. Joel Pawlak, associate professor of forest biomaterials.
“The material that we’ve developed binds iodide in water and traps it, which can then be properly disposed of without risk to humans or the environment.”
The new material – a combination of hemicellulose, a byproduct of forest materials, and chitosan, crustacean shells that have been crushed into a powder – not only absorbs water, but can actually extract contaminates, such as radioactive iodide, from the water itself.
This material, which forms a solid foam, has applications beyond radioactive materials. Pawlak and fellow researchers found that it has the ability to remove heavy metals – such as arsenic – from water or salt from sea water to make clean drinking water.
“In disaster situations with limited-to-no power source, desalinating drinking water is difficult, if not impossible. This foam could be brought along in such situations to clean the water without the need for electricity,” Pawlak says.
“This material could completely change the way we safeguard the world’s drinking water supply.”
The foam, which is coated on wood fibers, is used like a sponge that is immersed in water. For smaller-scale applications, the foam could be used in something like a tea bag.

On a larger scale, water could be poured through it like a filter.
Pawlak worked with NC State professor Dr. Richard Venditti on the research, which was funded by the Consortium for Plant Biotechnology Research, the N.C. Forestry Foundation and the U.S. Department of Energy.

Additional research into how the material can be used on a larger scale is currently being conducted.

Dear friends,

…Our thoughts create vibrations around the world.

Ise Jingu shrine

Ise Jingu is the shrine most central to the identity of the Japanese as a people and as a nation.
Here is a request for prayers …time is relative, and healing comes from the Absolute.

Changing our thoughts, offering gentle suggestion to those around us who are broadcasting painful thoughts, and prayer can offer benefits at any time.
Much love, Tsukina

A Japanese Monk Sent this Prayer Request

The damage of earthquake in Japan is devastating.
Unable to cool down the reactor(s) we are facing a possibility of nuclear plant explosion.
Please join our prayer. Feel free to forward this prayer request to anyone.
It would be great if more people can pray.
Here is a translation of a message/oracle from the Ise Shrine in Japan:
After sunset (each day or any time-editor’s note), we need strong power of prayer.
Please let me deliver the message to as many as possible.
We can stop this earthquake with our prayer but right now the nuclear plant is in danger.

Please everyone heal the suffering, sadness, anger, worry about nuclear plants.
Please do not think that this accident will bring justice.
Please care for each other.  The energy toward conflict and fight is also fueling the things happening right now.
Please stop the conflict and stop the fight and change the worrying voice to the power of prayer.
Please pray that as many people as possible can be saved.
We will be O.K. if our hearts start connecting with each other, the earth will be healed.

There are the sound/vibration that can release the karma of earth.
Anyone who can make prayer sound, anyone who can do reiki,
anyone who can do long distance healing, ( everyone that prays-editor’s note)
please direct your energy to the center of Japan .
The exact location is above the Hachiro gata, Akita Prefecture .

If you can sing, please sing.
Humming is fine too.
Let the earth listen to the sound.

Please send gratitude to the earth.
If the mother earth wakes up then everything will stop.
The word Song/Sing writes in Japanese Kanji that small possibilities
support a big lack.
Please send your prayer to the earth to wake up the spirit.

I will be in meditation after the sunset.
I will pray for the light shining the sky even in the darkness.
Please everyone be safe.
Thank you for supporting my heart at this very difficult time.
Gratitude for the life.

“Beware dental abuses and lies”

Author Editor Mary Wolken, Exec. Dir. CMA

How long have we heard to get semi annual check up and cleaning for your teeth. “The old expression of be true to your teeth or they will be false to you” Is truer today than any time in the past.

The falseness is not only in the false teeth that click away not fitting properly in so many peoples’ mouths, but also to the tools and the consciousness of the dental”care” industry.

The false premise that getting your teeth drilled, filled, root canalled, or implanted with a series of metals, poisonous chemicals, false patient education and excessive fees is only superceeded by the “supported” care of the dental insurance industry who has not improved its policies in 25 years.

There seems to be few healthy safe natural chemicals, filling materials or procedures used by a dentist that would stand the test of non-toxicity, non-leaching or off gassing in a patient’s mouth over time. A patient’s mouth is turned into a chemical battery that constantly is a threat to the patient’s long term health and well being, but could be used to transmit radio signals.

Then there are the dentists who have decided to forget quality dentistry and honesty and tell you anything to get your money for less than top care. If they develop their practices in several locations in town and across the border, then if the fillings or posts used in your mouth are inferior or the posts not long enough they will be so o kind that the defects in the care will not be seen until the tooth decays further in the patient’s mouth and another dentist is now in charge of the case and the first bandit has long ago collected his money and will lie if confronted about the poor craftsman ship in the patient’s mouth. Forget giving money back or compensating you for the hours of wasted time waiting for the poor care in the office..

Even when a holistic dentist can be seen and afforded, there is no standard of excellence to holistic care. Possible because none of today’s dentists have been trained in schools that have a holistic standard of care and or there is not enough of a demand for quality natural care.

I once went to a holistic dentist that considered the anticeptic used to be health anf holistic that was made from creosotum. Yes, it is made from the croesote bush that grows naturally in the southwestern desert of the US, but creosotum has traditionally been used to tan leather. The taste lingered in my mouth for two days that cannot be a good thing.

Wood creosote has been used as a disinfectant, a laxative, and a cough treatment, but these have mostly been replaced by newer medicines. Coal tar creosote is used as a wood preservative. It is distilled from crude coke oven tar, and is mainly composed of polycyclic aromatic hydrocarbons (PAHs), but also contains phenols and cresols.

So what is a person to do.

Buyer the risk is all yours. Unless you have  lots of kids, dental insurance is a farce and a complete scam. your could  put the same amount of money you give the dental insurance people into an account and let it earn interest for you and use it as you need for your dental well being. Dental insurance takes your monthly payments religiously every month, but you cannot used more than the most inexpensive of dental services like cleaning and maybe a filling or two for six months after getting the insurance. After that no extractions or more involved care for a full year then that care is parceled out like a mister gives away his gold.

We cannot let rotting teeth stay in your mouth, because of other health risk so take good care of your choppers. The goal is to have them last through your whole life.

Home dentistry is not the answer.

What is desperately needed is quality healthy care for all and the education needed to foster it. The ancient dental dynasty that has not changed much since Egyptian times needed to become more wholistic and work more closely with other natural care practitioners to look at and encourage whole care.

An example would be someone who has played sports or had a head or birth injury, these individuals’ jaws and skulls problably need to be realigned before any dental care to avoid severe and uneven wearing of the teeth and the bite reset. For teeth grinding this too needed to be solved or aided, before fillimgs etc. are donw so teeth and the bite remains even.

Next, dental care how to keep teeth healthy myths and truths.

“Kiss arsenic goodbye in US wells hopefully”

Queens University Scientists Behind Safer Drinking Water In US

Dr. Bhaskar Sen Gupta of Queen’s University Belfast, whose pioneering technology, which is transforming the lives of millions of people in Asia, is now being used to create safer drinking water in the United States. The award-winning system – Subterranean Arsenic Removal – removes arsenic from groundwater without using chemicals. It was developed by a team of European and Indian engineers led by Dr. Sen Gupta. The technology, based on the principle of oxidation and filtration processes, is already in use in six plants in West Bengal. Pioneering technology by scientists at Queen’s University Belfast is transforming the lives of millions of people in Asia, is now being used to create safer drinking water in the United States.

The award-winning system – Subterranean Arsenic Removal – removes arsenic from groundwater without using chemicals. It was developed by a team of European and Indian engineers led by Dr Bhaskar Sen Gupta in Queen’s University School of Planning, Architecture and Civil Engineering.

The technology, based on the principle of oxidation and filtration processes, is already in use in six plants in West Bengal.

And the technology has now been successfully tested in the United States, in a rural community outside Bellingham, in Northwest Washington State, where high levels of arsenic in the water had previously caused challenges for local residents.

Jeremy Robinson, a member of the Washington State installation team, said: “We first read about the SAR technology on Wikipedia. Initially, it seemed too good to be true. Arsenic is a significant problem for many of the wells in our area. None of the conventional approaches for arsenic treatment have worked well for us. But, once we recognized the advantages and elegance of the SAR approach, we started preparing to test it here.

“With the generous help offered to us by Dr. Sen Gupta and Queen’s University, we are now under way. Our early results have been very promising. We started the trial in January, on an abandoned well with alarmingly high arsenic levels. After three weeks, the arsenic level had dropped substantially. And now, after seven weeks, we are seeing arsenic levels at or below the US Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) limit.”

Dr Sen Gupta, came to Washington State to oversee the installation.

The key aspects of this life-changing technology are its affordability and simplicity of installation and operation. The cost of setting up a plant to produce up to 6,000 liters of water a day averages under Pounds 2,500 ($4000 US).  If used in a developing nation the cost would be much less and the operational cost is Pounds 14 a month ($20 US).

“The estimated life of each plant is about 20 years without any mechanical maintenance, and the system is operated, quite simply, by the pressing of an electrical switch.”

The technology has already attracted interest from other parts of the United States, and plans are now advanced for SAR plants to be set up in Cambodia, Vietnam and Mexico in the next six months.

The work of Dr Sen Gupta’s team has won accolades from around the world. In November Queen’s University was awarded the prestigious Times Higher Education Outstanding Engineering Research Team of the Year title.

The judges said: “Engineering at its core is about solving critical problems. The team from Queen’s has exemplified this, finding an innovative solution to overcome arsenic contamination of groundwater and thus improve the quality of life in rural communities.”

“Giffords is talking and eating 3x a day”

Arizona Rep. Gabrielle Giffords spoke for the first time since she was shot in the forehead, her

recovering

spokesman said Wednesday, yet another significant milestone in her recovery from a traumatic brain injury.  A true testament to her dogged determination to get well and all of the positive energy being sent her from thousands of well wishers and her loving family.

Giffords first spoke within the past few days and is speaking “more and more,” spokesman C.J. Karamargin said Wednesday. He didn’t know what her first words were, but said at breakfast one morning she asked for toast.

“She’s working very hard and it’s paying off,” he told The Associated Press. “We’re elated at this. We always knew Gabby is a fighter and that she’s not going to let this thing win. And you know, every day is proof of that.”

Six people, including a 9-year-old girl and a federal judge, were killed in the attack outside a grocery store where Giffords was meeting with constituents. Thirteen people, including Giffords, were injured.

Other news organizations, including Politico, earlier reported that Giffords had asked for toast and was able to speak.

In a Facebook post on Tuesday, Giffords’ husband Mark Kelly said his wife had her appetite back and was eating three times a day, “even though it’s hospital food.”

“It is hard to believe that only one month has passed since Gabrielle was shot,” he wrote. “The doctors say she is recovering at lightning speed considering her injury but they aren’t kidding when they say this is a marathon process.”

He said “there are encouraging signs every day,” pointing to her renewed appetite.

“Your prayers are being heard, so don’t stop,” he wrote.

Kelly, a NASA astronaut, said last week that he expects his wife to be well enough to be at his space launch in two months.

The space shuttle Endeavour will leave April 19 for a two-week mission to the International Space Station, and Kelly will be on board leading a veteran, all-male crew. The mission will be Endeavour’s final flight and Kelly’s fourth.

Dr. Gerard Francisco, who is treating Giffords at a rehabilitation facility in Houston, said Tuesday that he hopes the congresswoman can make enough progress to attend the space launch, but said it’s too early to say.
