Coastal evacuations people helping people

People have learned from Katrina and are putting their hard learned lessons to practice with this hurricane season in full force. People are helping everyone that can to get out of New Orleans and other cities along the Gulf today.
Buses collecting would-be evacuees from 17 locations across New Orleans will continue to run Sunday until 3 p.m. and 6 PM the last flight from the airport will leave, city officials said, giving residents further opportunity to get out of town ahead of Hurricane Gustav.

The bus service at those locations was scheduled to end at noon and officials decided to extend it three more hours even though the number of people showing up had slowed to a trickle by mid-day.

Residents also can show up directly at the city’s evacuation center at the Amtrak station on Loyola Ave.

18,000 people have evacuated through buses, trains and airplanes contracted by the government. The number of people passing through the processing center earlier today was a sharp contrast to Saturday, when thousands waited in long lines to board buses that would take them to shelters throughout the state and region. Hopefully most people got out of town on Saturday The last city buses were scheduled to gather people from 17 pick up spots at 3PM and the last flight out is scheduled for 6PM tonight.

When acid comes up from your stomach into your throat it may cause the burning. It often happens in response to an emotional crisis or after eating.

What happens physically?

At the top of your stomach is a muscle called the lower esophageal sphincter (LES), which normally opens and closes properly to allow food to enter the stomach. It also prevents the acid in your stomach from backing up into your esophagus and helps keep food out of the lungs.

If acid leaks (refluxes) into the esophagus, it can cause

1. burning

2. iregurgitation into the lungs, causing a cough or wheezing.

3. a sore throat. If acid reaches the mouth, it can dissolve the enamel of the teeth.

Millions of people have the disease and suffer from the pain of heartburn every day.
How can this be handled?
1 Look for foods or food combinations that may be triggering the digestive upset.
Suggestion: Keep a food diary for two weeks and record all food and drink ingested and the time it was taken.
2. Are you getting too fast or not chewing your food to a pulp?
Suggestion: Time how long or the number of times you need to chew a bit of food to turn it to liquid in your mouth before swallowing it.
3. Eat small, frequent meals.
4. Are you eating to close to bedtime? Eat lightly.

If you are eating meats or complex proteins within 3 hours of retiring, your food will ferment (rot) in your stomach and cause indigestion and poor sleep.
5. Are you getting this burning at certain times of the day or night?
6. Are you staying up too late and not getting enough quality deep sleep to allow your digestive system to completely relax at night? From 11PM to 11 AM all your digestive organs actively try to balance their energy.
7. Have you checked the side effects of your medicines or supplements to see if they are in some way upsetting your system?
Discuss any medications you are taking with your doctor.

To decrease GERD naturally, doing the following may help:

  • Wear loose natural clothing that breathes. Constriction can cause discomfort to an all ready bloated digestive system

Americans are Uninformed AND Misinformed on GMOs

In the US, not only was the Pusztai story barely mentioned by the media, but Project Censored (which compiles an annual list of news stories of social significance that have been overlooked by the country’s major national news media) described it as one of the ten most underreported events of the year. Indeed, the US mainstream media has been consistently close-lipped about the enormous health risks of GM foods. The US media failed to cover the preliminary study from the Russian National Academy of Sciences, for example, that showed that more than half the offspring of mother rats fed GM soy died within three weeks (compared to 9% from mothers fed natural soy). They also neglected to report that the only human GM feeding study ever published showed that the foreign genes inserted into GM food crops can transfer into the DNA of our gut bacteria. This means that long after we stop eating GM corn chips, our intestinal flora might continue to manufacture the “Bt” pesticide that the GM corn plants are engineered to produce. Americans were also not told about the estimated 10,000 sheep that died within 5-7 days of grazing on GM cotton plants—also designed to produce this Bt-toxin.

Parasites and human behavior

Half of the world’s human population is infected with Toxoplasma gondii, parasites in the body—and the brain. Commonly found in cats intestines; it sheds eggs that are picked up by rats which forms cysts in the bodies of the intermediate rat hosts, including in the brain.
This parasite coexhists with the rat.

Oxford scientists have discovered that this parasite alters the  minds of the infected rats so they will be attracted to cat urine instead of avoiding it as a normal rat would do. The parasite alters the mind (and thus the behavior) of the rat for its own benefit.

What effect might Toxoplasma have on human mind/ behavior?

Dr. E. Fuller Torrey (Associate Director for Laboratory Research at the Stanley Medical Research Institute) noticed links between Toxoplasma and schizophrenia in human beings, approximately three billion of whom are infected with T. gondii:

* Toxoplasma infection is associated with damage to astrocytes, glial cells which surround and support neurons. Schizophrenia is also associated with damage to astrocytes.

* Pregnant women with high levels of antibodies to Toxoplasma are more likely to give birth to children who will develop schizophrenia.

Where Our Mind Goes, So Goes Our Energy.

Relax – Feel Good. The communication between mind and body is a relationship worth cultivating.

Our mind can help calm and relax us, or it can encourage the flow of the body’s energy toward illness and death.

Relax – Feel good – Take the stress out and decrease illness and weight.

Stress taxes the nervous system and increases stress hormones: adrenaline, cortisol and other stress-related hormones. Long-held negative emotions: grief, anger, sense of neglect, abandonment and worry can make a person sick physically and emotionally.

Where Our Mind Goes, So Goes Our Energy.

Our mind can help our healing and relax us, or it can seed our path to illness and death.

Let us try this exercise to discover the power of the mind.

Step 1. Sit in a chair and let your hands drop to your sides. Close your eyes, breathe deeply and relax.

Step 2. Visualize a bucket of very warm water by your stronger hand.

Imagine you are putting your hand in this bucket of very warm water.

Let your stronger hand slip into the heated water.

Bring back a time when you had your hands in very warm water, water that is hot enough to turn your hand pink, but not so hot it burns you.

When you have made your hand as hot as you can without burning it.

Take it out and let it rest on your lap where it will stay hot until you have activated your other hand.

Step 3. Now feel your weaker hand and plunge your hand into very cold water, water that has ice floating in it.

Remember a time when you were using your hand to reach something in the back of a freezer. Let your hand get very, very cold without causing frostbite.

Feel the change in how your hand feels, like tingling or a sense of a glove over your hand.
Take your hand out of the icy water and allow your two hands to touch each other.

Do you feel a difference between the two?

now allow your hands to lightly touch each other. Feel the difference in the two hands.

Now take your hands and place then over an area of your body that is tight or in dis ease. Relax your breathing and allow the energy from your hands to flow through the area of your body that was not feeling comfortable.

When you practice this exercise daily you can use it to help yourself feel more in harmony and can relieve the stress in that part of your body.

With dedicated practice this exercise can be used to decrease stress and pain. It can help, along with diet, exercise and sleep, to help you to help yourself to better health feel better and better.
